Holistic Drum also hosts fun, interactive and educational Playshops & Drum Circles for Children and Adults
Drumming is fun, easy and a great way to improve one’s self-esteem while fostering a musical ground-work to last a lifetime. All sessions include an informative African cultural/history/geography lesson on the origin of the drum and its music.
Holistic Drum’s classes & playshops teach students how to:
* Understand rhythm, measure, and tempo and space
* Illustrate rhythm in everyday life
* Explore examples of rhythm
* Play specific rhythms and learn how they interweave with others
* Gain a sense of how these rhythms are played and used in Africa
Classes are geared towards learning about the rhythms of the drum, and how to bring out the rhythm each of us carries inside. Students are introduced to basic rhythmic & percussive concepts, including measure, tempo, Call & Response, the Pulse/Beat, and more. Through gentle, tried-and-true teaching techniques and games, the vast world of hand drumming, and how it relates to the self, is explored. Lessons cover tips on technique and solos, a series of rhythms, arrangements, and the rich and diverse African culture around the drum.
